Bellwood Preschool serves children ages 3-5 in its two part program. Younger students build social and emotional connections with school and classmates, while older children attend a Pre-K class that prepares them socially and academically for the transition to Kindergarten. Bellwood is able to offer individual attention because of its outstanding student to teacher ratio (6:1).
Our curriculum is influenced by Montessori and Reggio Emilia, which allows and encourages children to be curious, inventive, resourceful, and competent. It creates an atmosphere where children love to grow—and provides a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
As a Bellwood student, your child will look forward to activities that include:
Lunch Bunch
School performances
Firetruck Day and Officer Friendly Day
Caring for the school's animals
Social studies curriculum encouraging cultural awareness, celebration, and representation
Year-end Art Show
Science Corner
Yoga
Hatching baby chicks and butterflies
Introduction to Spanish
Planting and cultivating vegetables
Special visits from local organizations such as Franklin Park Fire Department, Pittsburgh Zoo, Carnegie Science Center and Northland Library
Session information
We like to think of Bellwood as a community, where parents and teachers work together to foster our children’s growth, education, and development. We encourage parents to be active members of our preschool community by spending time in our school, volunteering, and sharing special interests or talents with our students. On select days, we offer parents the option to extend their child’s stay at school through our Lunch Bunch program.
